Temperature gauge

My temp gauge is always maxed out. It never moves. Whether the car has not been started in a week or if it has run for a few miles. I just got this and I have only driven it a few miles and I never got heat to the heater. That would indicate a stuck thermostat but is the gauge broken and needs replacement? If any one has any ideas let me know. Thank you.

Sounds like the temp sensor is just bad. It's a really simple part. Ground the sensor wire, and it maxes out your gauge. So it could be that your wire is grounded out somewhere, but more than likely, just a bad sensor. It's a 5 minute fix and probably cost $10 or so.
