Edit:
So now that I figured out what that hose was (part of the vacuum hose system), has anyone ever plugged unused hoses like for the A/C? Do they all have to be plugged in or just certain ones and others ok with being capped?

New to the forum here so sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
Now to my current dilemma. I was running a new aftermarket therm gauge and while tucking the cable in the engine a small hose broke off on the back of the top end. When I pulled the broken hose it seemed to have been melted off somewhere down the line anyway. But now I'm wondering if it's an important piece. This is a newer project for me so I'm just now getting to know the car. It seems to suck in air while the engine is running. I have attached pics. Any help identifying this part would be highly appreciated.
