I'm afraid I can't answer your question, since most of my experience with them is removal lol. But I have to ask... why are you considering changing it? I'm not really sure it would be an upgrade and, last time I checked, the oem style compressors were still available. I do know that you can convert the old systems to use r134a. That's the route most people choose to go if they want to keep a working ac.

I agree with bronco junkie.Why do you want to upgrade?? I think R134 cools better anyway,compared to R12.
