SHUDDER and LURCHING

Pinion Angle Phasing...

Ever since completing my 86' LX 5.0 project car " PROTOURING 5.0" ...
I've had a slight, annoying lurching when driving at a constant speed. Disappears when decel or accel.

Long story shortened...

When I installed my custom, meticulously built 8.8, I paid close attention to my trans snout and housing being parallel along with 1.5* angles at both ends.

So that couldn't be it... Right?

When I installed the 31 spline Moser's, I noticed a "more than normal" amount of lash at the axle (ring gear locked down).
And I've been accusing my axles ever since, or about 15 hours of driving.

Thinking back... I had lowered my car 3" since pinion phasing, and didn't realize the amount of alignment movement this creates.

Big "sigh"... Deep breath...

After re pinion phasing... Lurching, clunking and shuddering gone!

Moral of this story....

Im old and my memory us failing me...

and

Always check clearances and dimensions after any adjustments.

So it was caused by the driveshaft being shoved too far into the tailshaft housing after being lowered? Or just the pinion angle itself? Or am I completely off track here? Lol

Damn good questioning...

Not too much penetration into the tail shaft housing.
I had 3/4" at initial setting and 1/2" after lowering.

It was the change in pinion angle, after lowering.
This upset my initial phasing of the setup.

Thanks for that question!
