1983 Ford Mustang GT

Alright, I got a '83 GT, and whenever I drive it, like get on it, it moves. Then when I shift the car it moves also, it feels like the rear end of the car just jumps out. Ideas?

My first thought would be rear control arm bushings (two of which are actually pressed into the rear end housing).

I've removed the rear sway bar on these cars before and didn't even notice a change in regular driving around town. So I would lean more towards the control arms. Definitely worth checking both, though.

When I "back halved" my 86, I observed the factory torque box wasn't completely spot welded to the body... The entire passenger side! Everything was there, just there was 1/2” of air gap between the metal parts needing welding together.
This made my upper control arm pretty spongy feeling.
Maybe check yours while you're under the car?
